Last week marked the international debut of the Redmi Note 13 series and are now on pre-order in the UK. Shipping is set to start on February 1, which is just a few days away (Thursday).
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 Pro+ flexes a 200MP main camera (1/1.4” sensor) with OIS and a basic 8MP ultra wide. It has a 6.67” 1220p display, a 120Hz AMOLED panel with 12-bit colors and Dolby Vision. The phone is powered by the Dimensity 7200 Ultra and a 5,000mAh battery with 120W fast charging (wired only).
The regular Redmi Note 13 Pro is a lot cheaper (even without the small discount from Amazon) but is mostly the same phone – the camera is the same, at least. The display can’t go as high on the brightness, but is still a 12-bit 120Hz panel. The biggest change is that the chipset is a Snapdragon 7s Gen 2. A less impactful change is the battery, which is a bit bigger at 5,100mAh but slower (though by no means slow) with 67W charging.
Then there is the Redmi Note 13. This one uses the Dimensity 6080 and has a 6.67” display with lower resolution (FHD+) and 10-bit colors (no Dolby Vision or HDR). It drops the main camera to 108MP and the battery to 5,000mAh and 33W charging.
The Pro may be the sweet spot for this series. But if you still want a cheap model, the 4G version of the Redmi Note 13 is worth a look. It switches to a Helio G99 and gains back that 200MP main camera (1/1.4”, OIS). Note that neither of the non-pro versions can record 4K video. The battery on this one is 5,000mAh again, but with the faster 67W charging.
We covered the Samsung Galaxy S24 series last week, but they are worth another look because Amazon has added vouchers – £100 for the S24 Ultra and S24+, £50 for the vanilla S24. And the free storage upgrade is still in effect.
Amazon kind of has the “cheapo tablet” market cornered, but there are alternatives. The Nokia T10 is interesting because it’s a £100 slate with 4G built in (normally this costs extra, here it’s only £10 more than the Wi-Fi version). Note that this is a 2022 tablet that launched with Android 12. HMD promised 2 OS updates and 3 years of security patches, so the T10 will be kept up to date until 2025. Not great, but hey, it’s £100.
Finally, the x86 handheld console market heated up after the launch of the Steam Deck. One of its main rivals is the Asus ROG Ally, seen here with the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme (which is the chip you want, the version with the regular Z1 isn’t worth it). You can play games on the hardware itself or make use of the free 3 month trial of Xbox GamePass and stream some titles you don’t own.
